The Dream

Some enchanted evening you’re going to meet your soulmate, the perfect person who will meet all your needs and fulfill all your dreams. Right? Wrong! Nobody, whether it’s your current mate or some dreamed-of partner in the future, has any obligation to deliver your happiness on a platter – nor could they even if they wanted to. Real love comes not from trying to solve our neediness by depending on another, but by developing our own inner richness and maturity. Then we have so much love to give that we naturally draw lovers towards us. ~ Osho

Drawing the Osho card, “The Dream,” a few days ago from the Osho Zen Tarot, I had the following thoughts. I wondered if I might share, if they might also resonate with you. I welcome your thoughts in the comments section of the blog post.

We all have some dreams that we  dream into being. Dreams may involve ways of meeting basic needs, expressing love, co-creating some wild offering to the world, or visioning a very new and different world. For some the dreaming is conscious, while for others the dream is hidden in the shadows of awareness. For some it’s a beautiful construct of all the magic that may be, while for others it’s a cruel reflection of perceived “reality” based on personal past stories.

When we encounter others, especially in love and depth, we naturally assess the degree of fit, synchronicity, and synergy between our dreams and the other’s dreams. We may project onto the other our own potential to create our dreams. In other words, we imagine that perhaps we’ll be more successful with that partner, because s/he is so much more empowered, knowing, or deserving. In fact, everyone we encounter serves as our mirror. They show us our gifts. They show us our fears. The perceived grandeur or perceived-failure of any other only serves to call us deeper into our own awareness and gifts.

We may run into trouble when we feel attached to another person stepping into our dream. Of course, there will be subtle differences, at the very least, between our dreams and anyone else’s, even when there’s a close match. We may find that the differences tear the relationship apart (with much learning in the process). The object of our deepest fantasy has the pure potential to be our greatest perceived delusion. The differences in the dreams may also serve to enhance and expand the vision. Either way, we will gain more clarity about ourselves, our path, and our dreams through the art of relating and loving.

Our dreams, like us, are always in expansion or contraction.  When we are naturally aligned with our own essence, we are more willing to allow our dreams to expand in concert with the cosmic design. Following our bliss supports us and our journey so beautifully.

Here’s my new affirmation for free love on New Earth: I am free to desire approval, not by projecting it onto others as I have surely done in the past, but by going within to my magnificent all-knowing heart, hearing my Truth, and honoring my higher self with every self-loving choice.

How can you define and hold your dream with more clarity?

What do others show you of your own essence?

Where do you find nurturing for your dreams?

In whose presence do you feel most loved and comforted?
